Hundreds and hundreds of safety pins in tonal metal colours and differing sizes are painstakingly applied and delicately places in an impactful, sprawling design which explodes across the front of the chest.

Blu: An Artist We Love

Here at Elvis Jesus we're constantly looking towards art and culture to inspire and enlighten us. Often times we find ourselves taking to the streets, looking at street style or graffiti to find our next design idea. Today I wanted to bring you an incredible artist that pushes the boundaries of traditional boundaries of graffiti art.

The artist Blu, living in Bolonga and working across most of Europe, paints massive murals using house paint and rollers with extensions, opting out of the tradition of spray paint as the graffiti painting medium of choice. Often creating gigantic human figures that dominate a wall or the side of a building, Blu frequently transforms the human shape by creating one form out of thousands of painted objects, such as bananas or smaller human beings.

Although I've seen his graffiti art for years, what really blew us away was the video MUTO, which he made in 2008. A stop-motion animated film using graffiti creatures moving across city streets and buildings, the video took a year to complete. Take a look at the video and some samples of his work. Definitely an awesome artist to get those mental gears turning in unusual ways.

Bullit: A Look at EJ Detail

Today we're looking at Elvis Jesus' take on a piece of film history, with our tee Bullit. Our proud pop culture heritage is honoured with a statement graphic inspired by another film legend. The print is given an aged treatment to evoke a real movie poster, which is juxtaposed with the fresh, dynamic use of embroidery.

Colourful stitching radiates from Jesus' shades in an exploding star pattern bringing a new dimension to an old classic. Safety pins are hand stitched along the shoulder seams for added embellishment.

Inspired by and re-imagining classic iconography brings a new edge to one of our figureheads. Keep your eye on our website, because March brings this shirt back on the market!

Droid: A Look at EJ Detail

I'm back to bring you another sneak peek into the fantastic detail that is hand-worked into every Elvis Jesus design. Today we are looking at a fan favorite, Droid. This Elvis Jesus reinvention of a rock and roll classic brings a dynamic twist to the iconic skull motif. Thousands of safety pins, selected in a range of metallic tones and sizes, are laboriously hand applied in an intricate layered design.

This creates a beautifully crafted, defined skull image. The sheen of embellishment is offset by the tonal discharge print to front and back, which gives a textured effect.

Taking a note from the classic punk rock style of metal hardware and safety pins adorning both clothing and piercings, this tee shirt lends a refined flair to a symbolic item. Our attention to detail is flawless, and our clever use of everyday objects guarantees that heads will turn as you walk down the street in this lavish tee.

Due to the overwhelming response to this tee, we are re-releasing the entire Elvis Jesus Pre SS13 collection in early March. Stay tuned to get your hands on one of these specialty tees and show your rocking style!

Li Hongbo: Artist We Love

Here at Elvis Jesus we are constantly looking at sources of inspiration, cool new ideas and designs that push us to create new and innovative collections of clothing for you. Inspiration can come from anywhere, from something as simple as a cool piece of graffiti on the street, to a fine artist working within the walls of a gallery.

Today I wanted to show you an awesome artist who has just come to my attention, and whose sculptures make my mind melt in amazement. Li Hongbo, an artist working in Beijing, China, creates sculptures that, while at first appearing to be made of plaster, are in fact made from paper that makes complex and unexpected transformations.

Using thousands of layers of glued paper assembled in a similar fashion to Chinese gourds, which are traditional folded paper toys, these sculptures push the capabilities of a simple medium like paper.

Check out the video to see how these sculptures move and transform, it really is mind-boggling!

Stooge: A Look at EJ Detail

Continuing our blog series focusing on the elaborate embellishments and detail found in every Elvis Jesus garment, today we bring you Stooge. Creating the swooping form of an imposing eagle, bespoke fabric pieces are carefully shaped into guitar plectrums that are layered with precision and delicacy to create this dramatic graphic design.

The beautifully tactile embellishment is executed in tonal shades of black through to brown, giving a lustre of luxury. The swooping eagle is silhouetted against a panoramic landscape subtly printed to the base.

Back by popular demand, this tee is a part of the re-release of our Pre SS13 Collection, which will be available in early March. In both black and white, Stooge shows a distinct Rock'n'Roll flair with an American twist, giving a new, high-end look to the symbolic eagle.

Revolt: A Look at EJ Detail

As a new feature on the Elvis Jesus blog, every day we are going to bring you a sneak-peak of some of the meticulous embellishments and hand-crafted details that are built into every garment we design.

For this first series of up-close-and-personal looks into our garments, we are pleased to announce the re-launch of our Pre-SS13 Collection! Because of such high response and demand for the collection, we have chosen to release another series of the pieces, allowing you another opportunity to grab your own in-your-face Elvis Jesus design.

Today we are highlighting Revolt, an elaborate design that is lavishly embellished with hundreds of pieces of metalware and a variety of embroidery techniques–recreating an iconic punk image with an EJ twist.

The cleverly conceived queen’s head is beautifully executed in intricate embroidery with embellished chain details. An array of press studs, metal beads, rings and domed plates are arduously applied by skilled hands in a scattered composition, framing Her Majesty.

Available in both black and white, each style features unique details using found objects, hand embroidery and an immaculate attention to detail. Reappearing in early March, this design embodies the wild spirit of Elvis Jesus.
